Hi there! My name is Patty Ascencion and I'm a senior at SDSU as well as an employee of the SDSUcard Office. I'll be your narrator for this presentation, so let's get started!
Patty Ascencion 2007 Political Science.
Your SDSUcard is the official identification for San Diego State University. All SDSU students are required to have one.
- Eating in the residence halls
- Computer lab access, printing and copying
- Laundry facilities in the residence halls
- Access to athletic and movie event tickets
- MTS Transit ticket discounts
- and On Campus Debit Programs
LetÕs look at the front of the card. Notice the red id number. This number represents you at SDSU and will never change. In the future even after you graduate, when you request transcripts someone will ask you for your red id number. Another important number on the face of your card is the ISO number. This number is magnetically incorporated onto the mag stripe on the back of the card and allows the card to be used as a campus debit card as well as an ATM card. The last number to look for on your card is a two digit issue number. This number tracks the number of replacement cards you have requested.
Now letÕs look at the back of the card. You will find three important features here. First look at the mag stripe. This is where your account address information is stored. ItÕs important to preserve your card from damage in this area or you may experience difficulties when you swipe it. There are two important telephone numbers on the back of your card. One is for the SDSUcard Office and the other for U.S. Bank. ItÕs a good idea to write these numbers down and keep them in a safe place. If your card is lost or stolen call the SDSUcard Office and if you have a U.S. Bank account you should notify them as well.
No that weÕve seen what your new card will look like letÕs see about obtaining one. How you obtain your card will depend on what your plans are regarding attending orientation and arriving on campus for the first time. If you plan on attending beginning in the Fall semester then you probably received a packet in the mail outlining the services connected to the card in May or June.
In that packet was an application form with instructions on what to send in the way of a photo and payment. Take a look at the form, itÕs self explanatory. But keep in mind that timing is important to ensure that your card will be ready for pickup when you arrive on campus. Lets say your orientation takes place August 4th, in that case you should mail the application with the prescribed three inch photo at least three weeks before orientation. ThatÕs one week for mail and two weeks for processing. Follow this timeline and your card will be waiting for you.
Please submit a 3"x3" recent color photo (no black and white photos) of yourself showing shoulders and face only. No smaller than a senior photo i.e., no passport photos. Do not wear caps or sunglasses. Write your legal name on the back of the photo. Take your picture at the SDSUcard Office AC-183 during any orientation day. Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Your SDSUcard is used all over campus to identify you and protect your entitlements. The first and probably the most important location is in the cafeterias for meal plan access. If you own a meal plan, every time you approach a cashier the clerk will verify your identity using the picture on your SDSUcard. If the two match the cashier will swipe your card and debit your account. Your meal will be accounted for. Think of the SDSUcard as a key to open your meal plan when you need it. If you have any questions regarding this function, please call the meal plan office at 619-594-7640.
The SDSUcard debit program is used only on campus for computer lab printing, SDSU bookstore purchases, food court and general store purchases, copying and microfiche readers and for on campus laundry machines.
Off campus, when your SDSUcard is connected to a U.S. Bank a checking account it may be used as an ATM card. You may also transfer funds from your U.S. Bank checking account to your SDSU debit account via a web transfer. Please note, web transfers may only be accomplished in one direction from U.S. Bank checking accounts to SDSUcard on campus debit accounts.
Need to access your checking account for cash? You can access your U.S. Bank checking account by using your ID card as your U.S. Bank ATM card. Simply attach your free U.S. Bank Aztec Checking Account to your card at the campus branch located in the West End Plaza at West Commons.
